This regulator, tested under the most demanding conditions, is the ideal companion for your dives. It is absolutely sturdy, extremely reliable, and high-performance, even in very cold water. The Abyss has been tested by the Notified Body INPP of Marseilles with binary (Heliox) and ternary (Trimix) mixtures to a depth of 100 m. The results are compliant with the recommendations of European Regulation EN 250. Breathing effort proved to be much lower than the regulation requires.
According to Mares, "First stages feature the exclusive DFC system, which minimizes intermediate pressure drop during the inhalation phase. The result? Considerably improved regulator performance - breathing is easier and there's less inhalation resistance. Thanks to this system, which guarantees improved and consistent intermediate pressure, simpler and more reliable second stages can be used for enhanced safety."
The Mares Abyss has been a workhouse from the Mares company since its inception. The 2005 Abyss is no different. Well built and with performance that matches its rugged design, the Abyss is one of our favorite regulators in the market.
Ghost reports that the Abyss performs better than his Sherwood Oasis in all aspects. The only issue as with NOS' Abyss is the weight of the unit that can caused jaw fatigue. He will be replacing the standard supplied mouthpiece to the comfort motuhpiece sold at Sport Challet.
Also, the unit functioned extremely well in most positions including inverted, angled inverted and inverted vertical.
