Tyger-Ray is an electric underwater scooter designed for use during snorkelling or diving that not only increases dive time by saving energy, and therefore oxygen, but also lets you throw underwater loops and somersaults to depths of up to 120 feet.
We have had the Tyger Ray for about 2 years and sadly we have only used the unit twice. Not because of the unit, it is mostly due to the fact that we normally carry a large quantity of gear and the Tyger Ray is not a light item to carry.
On our testing runs with the Tyger Ray, we had nothing but praise for this nifty underwater scooter.
With a recharging unit, you can get the Tyger Ray to go for over an hour w/o noticing any loss of power.
The Tyger Ray was also able to carry 2 divers and it showed how much power the unit really had.
The design is somewhat different from standard underwater scooters as the fan section is further from the user as they claim offer increase control and less loss of power. The Tyger Ray's main problem lies with the activating mechanism. The unit is activated when a metal piece that is placed inside this "thum glove" decide that the user has to wear on his/her thumb. You have to place the metal "stub" on to this swtich on the handle. With the speed of the scooter, it was hard to kepe the thumb in the correct position thus making the Tuger Ray literally "jolt" and "jerk".
Other than this small flaw in the design, we enjoy the Tyger Ray quite a lot and will be looking forward in using the unit again in our future dives.
